Perlite is an amorphous volcanic glass that has a relatively high water content.In order to optimize the water-storing properties of perlite, the raw material has to be "popped". Perlite is suddenly heated to 900 ° C and the water it contains evaporates. This process expands the rock by up to 20%.
This perlite is therefore a valuable addition for garden and pot culture, but very valuable for orchid-culture. The small perlite beads prevent waterlogging. At the same time, Perlite soaks up water and stores it until the roots need it. Perlite is pH-neutral and very low in salt.
