macdanielii = Anthurium macdanielii is named for the first author's friend and fellow aroider Charlie MacDaniel, teacher and naturalist as well as an expert on ecotourism in Ecuador, who collected living material of the species for the first author.

growing epiphytically on the eastern side of the Andes in tropical moist forest and premontane moist forest zones at altitudes of 200-2000m.growing.
Anthurium macdanielii is characterized by very large, up to 1m long, leathery leaves. 7-9 basal veins provide the necessary stability. The leaves change color depending on age, ranging from light to dark green with sometimes numerous purple spots. The spadix can reach 36cm in length, and is dark red to deep purple.
