epiphytic or terretric, along the Pacific Andes, in Colombia to inland at altitudes of 1500 - 2300m, in Ecuador at altitudes of 200 - 1200m, in warm humid tropical forest in shady places.
Anthurium compact hort. could now be identified quite clearly as Anthurium umbricola. The classification of Anthurium umbricola is very difficult, as this species has a wide distribution range and occurs at different altitudes. The herbarium records are also contradictory.
