Product information "Monstera spruceana"
Name: Monstera spruceana, (Schott) Engl. 1878
Synonyms:

Monstera steyermarkii, G.S.Bunting 1975
Tornelia spruceana, Schott 1859

Etymology:

spruceana = after Richard Spruce (1817-1893), British botanist and botanical explorer, collector of the type specimen.

Propagation: division, seed
Origin: Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Guyana, and Brazil
Habitat:

hemiepiphytic climber, both on both sides of the Andes and in the Amazon basin at altitudes from sea level to 1200m.

Notes:

Like many other monsteras, Monstera spruceana forms closely spaced round leaves when young. Only later do the pinnate leaves form, the decisive momentum is not the size of the plant but its age.
In his MONSTERA REVIEW, Michael Madsion describes this species as very variable and, due to the wide distribution and the different phenotypic appearance, proposes that it could actually be 2-3 different species, but also states that it cannot be verified with the available material at present.
