carruthersiana = William Carruthers (1830-1922), Scottish botanist. Carruthers was Keeper of the Botanical Department at the Natural History Museum, London, UK, from 1871 to 1895. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society (1871) and president of the Linnean Society from 1886 to 1890.
epiphytic on mossy branches in cloud forests in the provinces of Morona-Santiago and Zamora-Chinchipe, at altitudes from 1200 to 2500 meters
Masdevallia carruthersiana is a species with leathery leaves, inflorescence stems can grow 30cm long. Terminally, several single flowers can come into bloom one after the other, the flower size is about 4-5cm.
