Product information "Chiloschista viridiflava var. Sakura"
Name: Chiloschista viridiflava, G.Seidenfaden 1988
Synonyms:

not known

Etymology:

viridiflava: virides = greenish, flavus = yellowish
Sakura = Japanese name for the cherry blossom

Propagation: seed
Origin: Thailand
Habitat:

epiphytic in warm, humid mountain forests at altitudes up to 1200m.

Notes:

Chiloschista viridiflava is a leafless orchid that needs regular light dousing with water in the morning and evening twilight. It is very important that it dries again very quickly. This species can bear up to over 20 flowers on one inflorescence stem. The flowers are 8-12mm in size and have a firm, almost waxy texture.
The "variety" Sakura is not validly described, and should therefore be regarded as a trade name. With the bright flower and the inner red spots, the flowers are very reminiscent of the Japanese cherry blossom. Only time will tell if the varietal name can be maintained, it may very well be that it is an independent species.
