puntarenasensis = Puntarenas is a city in the west of Costa Rica and the capital of the province of Puntarenas, where Lycaste puntarenasensis was first discovered. Puntarenas is the most important port on the Pacific coast of the country and has about 40,000 inhabitants.

Lycaste puntarenasensis var boquete, like all representatives of this section of the genus Lycaste, is very multiflorous. However, in nature this species is leafless and dry from December to April, only the morning and evening dew prevents it from drying out completely.
